Pilot Fiber to the Home nDanville Project vote on July 6th.

nDanville is envisioned as the means through which the City of Danville can stimulate the local telecommunications market to provide the level of advanced broadband infrastructure and services needed to position the community for economic growth. Danville Utilities proposes to move in a pilot project fashion into the final phase of nDanville, described as “Phase III - Fiber to the Home.” This will involve extending current fiber optic infrastructure to approximately 2,000-3,000 homes inside the City limits. The Averett community has been identified as the first targeted neighborhood of approximately 1,200+- homes covering a demographically diverse area. A second similarly sized neighborhood within the City will be identified as part of this pilot residential deployment. This infrastructure will provide fiber optic capability for any contracting service provider to bring state of the art telecommunications, entertainment, and internet services to our customers.

City Council will be voting on whether to proceed with the fiber to the home project on July 6th during their work session. The Danville Utility Commission has already provided their recommendation to City Council to proceed with the project. This project would be funded without any taxpayer or utility ratepayer revenue and is self sufficient by using existing telecommunication revenues from current nDanville connections. These meetings are open to the public so feel free to attend and show your support for the expansion of nDanville!
